Myrna

Myrna Abdel-Gawad was an awarding-winning bilingual teacher for two decades in the
Oxnard School District in Oxnard, California. An educator for over five decades,
she worked hard to help her students become strong and successful. A teacher for over five decades, she worked hard to help her students become strong and successful. She was particularly dedicated to her students who are now known as DREAMers….

She also worked as a powerful negotiator with the Oxnard Educators Association, gaining better pay, benefits and working conditions for her fellow educators. She was named Teacher of the Year, and after retiring in 2002, she was honored with a resolution of commendation by the Oxnard School District. Prior to her work in Oxnard, she taught students in Fairfax County, VA; Harlem, New York; Cairo, Egypt; and Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Myrna died in 2015 and is deeply missed, but through this scholarship, her legacy will endure.
