Scholarship Recipients

The 2025 Myrna Scholarship awardee is a remarkable 17-year-old girl heading to a University of California campus. When J. came to the United States at age 11 with her mother, she spoke no English. Today, she is fluent and bilingual in Spanish and English and she tutors other students learning English during lunchtime.

J. joined her high school’s Wellness Center peer counseling program and is President of the Spanish Club. She has helped and advocated for her fellow students and peers in innumerable ways. During her high school years, she participated in her school dance team and went to National Championships with her team; was president of the school site council; was on the cross-country team; and through Theater Club, helped coordinate the first district-wide play in Spanish. J. currently maintains a 3.7 GPA while working in a fast-food restaurant to support her family in addition to her Wellness Center, tutoring, and Spanish Club activities.

She embodies the true spirit of a Myrna Scholarship winner and, like Myrna did, J.’s dream is to become a teacher after graduating college. J. has leadership and advocacy skills, and talent and interests that remind us of Myrna too. We are proud of our first scholarship awardee and look forward to her continued success.

She is grateful for this opportunity and thanks all of the generous Myrna Scholarship donors who are helping her dreams come true. She hopes that the Myrna Scholarship continues to grow stronger so many more students can get the opportunity to follow their dreams.
